The feeling of the water rushing over you, prickling your skin and awakening you from within.
Happy Monday!!! And the first blog post of June. I‘ve been a little absent the past month due to a lots going on and lots of changes in my personal life but, it’s June and I am back and ready to inspire, teach, grow, and learn with you all💛! Since it is June, that means it’s pretty much summer time for most of us. Summer is a hot, sticky time and for some, you might cool off with a nice swim. But for others, you might want something more than a swim. Maybe something like a nice shower? No, not a hot shower like most of us take, a cold one! Cold showers might sound too chilly or a bit ridiculous for some people but it actually isn’t ridiculous at all. In fact there is research that states cold showers have many health benefits and today we are teach you about these benefits. Then, it will be up to you to decide if cold showers will be your new thing this summer or maybe it's a tradition you simply intend on continuing. So let's get to it!
5 BENEFITS OF COLD SHOWERS
Increase Alertness: You ever have those days where you feel super groggy or you just can't seem to focus enough to get anything done? Science has proven that a cold shower might actually help this. The coldness of the water can stimulate your senses and actually "wake you up", in a sense.
Decrease your cortisol levels: Cortisol is a stress inducing hormone. There have been many researchers that have proof supporting the idea that when you are immersed in cold water, like a cold shower or bath, your bodies cortisol levels will drop, therefore lowering your stress levels.
Improve circulation: When immersed in a cooler water temperature like a cold shower, the amount of blood flow to the skin decreases. Then when you get out of the colder temperatures, your body tries to warm it self up by increasing the blood flow back to the skin. Scientist believe that this process can help improve your bodies circulation. A good circulation can make wounds heal at an increased rate, give you a natural "blushed" look, and keep your brain and heart healthy.
Decrease inflammation: Inflammation happens when your body tells your immune system to attack bacteria or to heal tissues. Usually the body does this when you are sick or you're injured (which is called acute inflammation) but sometimes you can have a disease that can cause inflammation in the body without any illness or injury which is called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation might show up as joint pain, fatigue, chest pain, skin rashes, ect... Research suggests that a cold shower might help reduce these symptoms of chronic inflammation.
Speeds up metabolism: Metabolism is the process your body goes through to convert your food and drinks into energy. According to the Cleveland Clinic, when you are taking a cold shower, your body is trying to keep itself warm through a self heating process, therefore using more energy, burning extra calories, and speeding up your metabolism.
Those are just five ways that a cold shower can improve your health. Not only is it refreshing from the extreme heat of summer and rise in temperature but it also can be good for you. This isn't to say that hot showers are bad or worse for you though.
