LITTLE LIBRARIES

Getting involved in the community is hard lately with COVID-19 still going around and people trying to be safe but still wanting to interact with one another. One way that you can safely be involved in the community is by building a little library for your neighborhood or nearby park. Here is a starting guide on little libraries.

A little library is little box that people can take a book to read or leave books for others to read. You can even take a book and leave little notes or quotes inside for the next reader to enjoy! (as a fellow book lover, reading someone else's notes in a used a book gives a different insight sometimes and can be really interesting).

So let's begin! There are a few options in creating this little library. You could:

  1. Use scrap wood to build one from scratch- This one is better for the earth because it recycles old materials that aren't being used. It is also a fun project to do and you get to design it however you would like.

  2. Ask a family member or neighbor to build one for the community- This option gets other people involved and really makes this project a community builder. You would bond with the person a little more and they would love to be helping out the community or neighborhood.

  3. Purchase a pre-built little library- This option might help you support a small business if you choose to purchase from one of those but purchasing a pre-built one might be too expensive. It also limits the creativity you could use to design it yourself.

  4. Find something from a thrift store to use- This might be harder to find but if you did choose this option, it could benefit the earth by re-using old items and putting them to better use and this option also could allow you to still use your creativity to design to outside of the box or transform an item into a little library for the community.

Whatever one you decide to do or create, the community will love and benefit from and you will be involved in the community and it will be for the good of the community.
