FOOD FRIDAY: MAPLE TOFU

Happy FOOD FRIDAY! We hope you all have had a lovely week so far! For any new people here, every Friday we give you all a new recipe. The recipe might be vegan, gluten free, dairy free, egg free, or a combination of those. Finding recipes can be really difficult for those with dietary restrictions or for those that prefer to eat a certain way for health or moral reasons, so we try to create recipes that these everyone can enjoy.

Today's recipe is MAPLE TOFU that is gluten free and vegan! Tofu is a meat replacer for some but for others it is a staple in their diets. A fun fact about tofu, it is a good source of calcium to keep your bones healthy! MAPLE TOFU

SERVES: 1 person

TIME: 10 minutes

INGREDIENTS

-Quarter block of firm or extra firm tofu

-2 tbsp of maple syrup

-2 tsp of liquid amino acids (or soy sauce if you prefer)

-3 tbsp of gluten free flour (or corn starch)

-1 tsp of sesame seeds

-1 tsp of sesame oil

STEPS

  1. First, drain the water from the tofu block. Then, cut a quarter of the tofu block off and wrap the quarter in a paper towel to extract any excess water.

  2. Once, that is done, you can cut the quarter block of tofu into strips and cover each strip with gluten free flour.

  3. After each strip is covered in flour, pour your oil onto a pan and place the pan onto the stove top.

  4. Let the pan get to a medium temperature, then add the flour covered tofu strips to the pan.

  5. While they are cooking, prepare the sauce by combining the maple syrup, liquid amino acids, and sesame seeds in a bowl.

  6. Once your sauce is done, flip the tofu strips to the other side so they are evenly cooked. The tofu should be done when the outside begins to brown.

  7. After the tofu is done, turn the heat off on the stove top and add the sauce to the pan.

  8. Then, place the tofu on a plate or over rice and enjoy!

QUICK TIP: If you would like to store your leftover, "uncooked" tofu, put it in a container and add water to it so that it doesn't go bad as quickly. We hope you enjoy this MAPLE TOFU recipe for FOOD FRIDAY! Remember, if you try out this recipe, tag us in a photo on Instagram @beeramagazine, for a possible feature on our story! Have a great weekend and a wonderful Friday!
