Happy Monday! Monday is a day for habit building. It's the first day of the week when we restart our weekly habits and get back on track in life. One of the 3 main areas of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is physical health. Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with habits that maintain your physical health or to know what to do in general for physical health. Today we are going to give you 10 habits to pick up on for a better physical health. These habits are simple things that make a world of difference. You can start adding them to your day one at a time until you pick up on them and they become your day to day lifestyle. So let's get to it!
10 HABITS TO PICK UP FOR A BETTER PHYSICAL HEALTH
Drink 8 cups of water daily (or more): Drinking enough water is something that lots of people struggle with. A lack of water can cause headaches, acne, infections, dizziness, dry skin, ect… One way to help you get enough water each day is a water bottle that measures out how much to drink each hour. This can guide you go drink more and help you keep track of your water consumption. You can find these on Amazon or places like Healthish.
Exercise 3-4 time a week: This can be a simple walk or a yoga session. It can be a teams practice or an hour at the gym. Just moving your body 3-4 times a week to get your heart rate up and your health in good shape. If you are interested in yoga, check out our blog post for a flow to try out!
Get 9-10 hours of sleep per night: Sleep is one of the most important aspects of your health, not only physically but also mentally. If you struggle to sleep, try creating a calming bedtime routine for an easier falling asleep, staying asleep, and waking up!
Focus on getting the nutrients you need from your food: FOOD! It’s your energy source. It allows you to do all the things you love doing. Giving yourself highly nutritious food is essential for having good physical health. You can look good and still not be getting the proper nutrition for your body to function properly. The main things you need to know is eat less processed foods, eat as many whole grains, seeds/nuts, veggies, and fruits as you can, have protein with almost all your meals (this doesn’t mean you need meat at every meal, this means nuts, seeds, veggies, ect…just some sort of protein source), and lower your added sugar intake (like the soda or sugary cereal). We post weekly recipes on Fridays if you need guidance in finding recipes to try.
Wash your face and get yourself a routine: A skincare routine is something lots of people talk about on social media and it’s true that a routine it does improve your skin health but this doesn’t mean you have to have all the expensive, chemical heavy cleansers social media pushes. The main NEEDS of a skincare routine is an exfoliator, a cleanser, and a moisturize. And all of this can be done with natural made products. Every skin type is different but as an example you could use a castile soap to cleanse and then an oatmeal-honey blend to exfoliate and hydrate the skin. This way you can get dead skin off, cleanse your face, and then keep your skin moisturized.
Stretch your body in the morning for 5-10 minutes: Getting up and moving your body around in the morning helps increase blood flow, relax tense muscles, keep your body in good shape, and even improve your posture.
Drink a cup of water after you wake up: We already mentioned how much water affects your life but did you know that drinking water right when you wake up can help flush toxins from the body? Starting off your day with a cup of water can really improve your physical health.
Turn off electronics an hour before bed: The blue light emitted from your phone actually effect your circadian rhythms. Your circadian rhythm is your sleep-wake cycle and it is controlled by melatonin, a hormone that blue light restrains the production of. When you turn off your phone and electronics before bed melatonin will be released easier and you will get better sleep and get an improved sleep schedule.
Limit processed food and replace them with healthier options: This was touched on earlier but it's so important and difficult to do that it needs to be seen as its own habit. Processed foods are all around us: the drive through food, the cereal in the morning, the soda at night, the fruit snacks for lunch. All of these are processed foods. The majority of processed foods contain extra chemicals and preservatives that are harmful to the body. Not only that but processed foods aren't typically nutritious so its just empty food that seres no purpose for the body. Limiting these processed food and replacing them with healthier options will boost your energy, keep your healthier, and cut out extra chemicals and toxins.
Get sunshine for at least 20 minutes daily: Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine. One important vitamin for a healthy mind AND body is vitamin D. The main source of vitamin D is SUNSHINE! Getting at least 20 minutes of direct sunshine will increase your vitamin D levels to keep you energized, reduce acne, strengthen bone health, and decrease mental illness symptoms.
We hope that this blog post is helpful for you and your physical health and that you are able to add at least a few of these habits into your daily life. Have a wonderful Monday and the rest of your week!
REMINDER OF THE DAY: You are your home, take care of yourself.
