We hope you all had a lovely weekend. Can you believe it is the last day of January 2022? We are so excited for this next month of love and purification, February. Fun fact about February: The word February comes from the Latin root "februa" which means "to cleanse". Cleansing can be internally, mentally, your surroundings, or physically. Today we will be focusing on a physical part of cleansing your body, hair removal. Whether you choose to remove your hair or what hair you remove is completely your decision and always should be. For those that choose to remove your hair or remove certain sections of your hair, we will be giving you a few tips to get the smoothest skin when removing hair. Hair removal can be difficult to do without razor burn, cutting yourself, or harming the skin but with these few tips and tricks, we will help you achieve smooth skin. So, let's get to the good stuff!
HAIR REMOVAL TIPS AND TRICKS FOR SMOOTH SKIN
SHAVING:
PROS: Shaving is the quickest option for hair removal. It also is fairly easy, it's painless, it's cheaper than other options, and it is good for "on the go" situations.
CONS: Shaving is not always great for people with sensitive skin types, the hair grows back quickly and thicker, it can cause ingrown hairs, you can unintentionally hurt yourself, and it can cause skin irritation and bumps.
TIPS AND TRICKS: If you choose to shave, there are a few tips and tricks that can leave you with smooth skin.
Make sure your skin is warm when shaving. Shaving when your cold can lead to irritation and possible unintentional injuries to the skin.
Don't shave your bikini area first. Try shaving a place that is less sensitive first, like your legs, to test how your. skin will react.
Use something to calm the skin afterward. One natural way is coconut oil. After you get out of the shower, dry off and apply coconut oil to the freshly shaven area. This can help avoid red bumps, irritation, and increased bleeding from possible razor burn.
Shave in the direction of the hair first and go in small strokes.
Avoid a heavily scented soap or gel when shaving. Using a scented soap to shave can cause an increased irritation on the skin.
HARD WAXING: PROS: Hard waxing is gentler on the skin, so it is good for bikini areas and other sensitive spots. It is less painful than soft waxing. You don't need waxing strips to use it, unlike soft wax. CONS: It can be painful if not properly and it is more time consuming than other options like shaving. There are options to do this at home, but they are more expensive than shaving.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
When doing this at home, make sure to apply an oil to the skin before waxing. One natural recommended one is grapeseed oil. This is to help your skin stay away from possible harm from contact with wax.
Make sure the area is cleaned before waxing to lessen the chance of irritation or breakouts.
Dry the area before applying the wax so that the wax sticks to the area.
Remove wax in the opposite direction of the hair growth and apply it in the direction of the hair growth.
Make sure the wax is hot enough but not too hot that you will hurt yourself. It should be a similar consistency to honey. Stir the wax to cool it down a bit.
Like shaving you should apply coconut oil after hard waxing to sooth and smooth the skin.
SOFT WAXING:
PROS: Soft waxing is good for waxing large areas, like legs. Soft wax is also cheaper than hard wax and doesn't need to be heated to use.
CONS: The wax sticks to your skin rather than the hair which makes this a more painful process than hard waxing. It requires a waxing strip to use and may irritate the skin.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
Exfoliate before waxing. You can use a loofa, or another scrub that will exfoliate the skin.
If the hair is really long, trimming it down a bit (NOT TOO SHORT) will help with the pain that waxing comes with.
Make sure the area is cleaned before waxing to lessen the chance of irritation or breakouts.
Dry the area before applying the wax so that the wax sticks to the area.
Remove wax in the opposite direction of the hair growth and apply it in the direction of the hair growth.
Like shaving you should apply coconut oil after hard waxing to sooth and smooth the skin.
HAIR DISSOLVING PRODUCTS(Depilatories):
PROS: It is a pain-free process, it is easy to do at home, it is fairly quick, less in-grown hairs, and while it does cost money, it isn't too much compared to other options.
CONS: It can cause a skin reaction to chemicals, it doesn't have a pleasant smell, there is a chance of allergic reactions, and it requires frequent keep up.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
Do a test area. These creams and lotions have chemicals that can cause irritation to the skin or cause an allergic reaction. It is good to test a small area to see how your skin reacts before applying it to a larger area.
Use the cream or lotion that matches your hair type and skin type. There are certain depilatories that are best for each hair and skin type (they should be labeled on the bottle). There are also certain ones for certain areas, so make sure you have the correct type.
Remove the cream or lotion with a warm, wet cloth.
Wipe it off, do not rub it off. Rubbing it causes an increased irritation.
Remove it in the opposite direction of the skin.
Follow the directions on the bottle. Don't exceed the time of the bottle or use too much than what it says to use.
SUGARING:
PROS: Sugaring is the most natural wax option, it contains lemon, sugar, and water. It is quick to use, easy to clean, less painful than waxing options, and can reduce hair growth after a longtime use. CONS: It is hard to make it at home and takes a few steps, it can leave hair behind, and in some occasions it can cause bruising (depends on the person).
TIPS AND TRICKS:
Lightly exfoliate before sugaring. You can use a light scrub or a loofa.
Hydrate the skin before sugaring. Applying coconut before sugaring can hydrate the skin.
AFTER sugaring, don't exfoliate the sugared area for 24-48 hours. The skin it still sensitive during this period of time.
If you are sugaring your bikini area, don't do it during your period and don't add extra touching or friction to the area after 48 hours of sugaring.
Sugar regularly. This can help slow hair growth and prevent ingrown hairs.
Watch out for extra chemicals after sugaring. Don't use heavily scented lotions, ect... (a natural oil would be ok. example: coconut oil)
We hope you have a lovely rest of your day and a great start to the week and the new month. Happy cleansing everyone!
