WAYS TO BEGIN ADVENTURING ALONE

"I enjoy being alone, my soul is at peace in the silence."-Unknown.

Happy Monday everyone! Today's blog is about adventuring alone. Being alone gets a bad rep. Everyone yearns to be in a friend group, in a relationship, or with their best friends so much that they forget how to love being alone or how to enjoy being alone. Alone time can create a sense of peace, a sense of growth, and a sense of reflection. There are a few different sections of life where you can begin spending time alone and today, we will be talking about the adventuring section. In addition to the benefits of alone time, adventuring alone allows you to feel in control of your life and let you reflect on what makes you, YOU. It also lets you begin a journey of self-discovery. When you do things alone, you don't have other people's opinions influencing yours, and you don't have people to make adventures seem better or worse, the adventure is simply there and you get to make your own opinion with just yourself to experience it. This allows you to begin a self-discovery journey, along with the sense of peace, control, growth and reflection that adventuring alone gives you. Below is a list of 5 ways to begin adventuring alone. These are ideas to get you thinking and maybe to try one out and see how it goes.

WAYS TO BEGIN ADVENTURING ALONE

  1. Take a drive to go watch sunset/sunrise: People love to watch the sun set or rise at the beach, but you can watch the sun rise/set from almost anywhere in the world. If you have trees around you, watch the trees change colors. If you have a mountain or hill nearby, watch the sun fall/rise behind/above the peak or watch the sunset/sunrise on top of the peak. If you have a field around, go lay in the field or drive to the field and watch the grasses light up in the golden hour. Watching the sunrise or sunset alone has an overwhelming peaceful sense to it. You should try it once. Just spend an hour alone watching the sky fall asleep or wake up (whichever you prefer).

  2. Go to a park and do an activity: Take your bike, walk, or drive to a nearby park to do an activity of your choice. You can even go in your backyard if you are unable to leave the house. Just go outside and do some yoga, read a book, listen to a podcast, paint, meditate, write, or just sit and enjoy nature. Doing something you love alone allows to you to begin developing a love and appreciation for alone time and the peace that comes with it.

  3. Make yourself a picnic outside: Enjoy a bite to eat outside and look for the beauty of the outdoors. How the ants want a piece of watermelon just like you and how the trees dance in the wind while the leaves shake with excitement as it blows. Find appreciation for those little things. A lot of times when we are surrounded by people, we forget to take a moment to appreciate our surroundings like the nature around us. Practicing this gratitude and appreciation for the outdoor surroundings, can help us see and recognize it more often in our lives.

  4. Find a nearby walk/hike or bike ride: Take a bike ride or go on a hike nearby. You can search online "hikes near me" or "bike trails nearby" and it will come up with a list of options for you. Even if it is a small trail, it is better than not doing anything at all. You can start small and then maybe get inspired to do a different one at a later time. Before going on a hike or bike trail alone though, make sure someone knows where you are going just in case something was to happen to you. It is always better to be safe rather than sorry when it comes to situations where you could get injured easily.

  5. Go stargazing: Star gazing is better in some towns than it is in others but that doesn't mean you can't try to star gaze from wherever you are. That is the beauty of stars, they surround the sky from wherever you are, whether you can see them clearly or not. Try to find a day when it is not as cloudy and go out and try to watch the stars. You can sit in your car and open the car top, put a blanket down in the grass outside, or drive to a nearby darker area and watch them from there. The quiet of the night combined with being alone makes for a very peaceful night.

So, start adventuring alone and have fun with it: tap into your inner peace and self-discovery.

Quote of the day: "What a lovely surprise to discover how unlonely being alone can be." -Ellen Burstyn
